Admiral Sportswear is a British internationally recognized brand for football, cricket, cycling and sportswear. It reached the pinnacle of its success in the 1970s and early 1980s through a series of prestigious football team and sponsorships.
The Admiral trademark was created in 1914 by Cook & Hurst Ltd, a Leicester based company manufacturing quality underwear and then sportswear. When England won the 1966 World Cup, Bert Patrick, the owner of Cook & Hurst Ltd, started manufacturing and marketing football packs. Kit sales were aimed at the youth market and through the sale of connectors in the sports retail trade. Bert Patrick believed the advent of color television would enable him to convince football clubs to accept personalized kits that his designers would produce and then register them under the Design Copyright Act. There was sharp opposition to his ideas from all walks of life.
