Nalini vintage cycling jersey Kelme - Costa Blanca 2002

In 1979 Kelme sponsored the mountain classification in the Vuelta a España. Kelme's owners were unhappy with the publicity this generated, so they decided to sponsor a cycling team instead.
The Kelme team was formed in 1980 from another Spanish cycling team, Transmallorca. From the 2004 cycling season, the Valencian government took over as main sponsor, Kelme became co-sponsor and eventually dropped out of the team at the end of the year. Despite this, the team continued to run, but the days were numbered when on August 20, 2006, due to doping allegations against Operación Puerto, the Valencian government stopped its sponsorship. This would be the last year for the oldest team in the peloton. In recent years it has been managed by Vicente Belda, a former cyclist who rode for the team from 1980 to 1988. Well-known former riders included Alejandro Valverde, Roberto Heras, Aitor González, Óscar Sevilla, Ángel Casero and Fernando Escartín. The team's most important achievements are two victories in the Vuelta a España: by Roberto Heras in 2000 and Aitor González in 2002.
