The Argentina national rugby union team is a team of rugby players that represents Argentina in international competitions. The Pumas play annually against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in The Rugby Championship.
The first international match was played in 1910 in Buenos Aires. A delegation from the British Isles were then on a tour of South America. This match and most of the following were lost. Since the 1960s, the sport has become increasingly popular and the national team has won more and more matches. Buenos Aires became a difficult place to play for the European countries that came to visit. Argentina has qualified every time since the first Rugby World Cup in 1987. The greatest success was achieved in 2007 with a third place. Surprisingly, host France was sidelined in the opening match of the tournament. The Argentinians would then also win their three other group matches and the subsequent quarter-final. Only in the semi-finals was the winning streak of the "Pumas" stopped by South Africa. In the bronze medal match they again played against the French. While the difference in the first game was only five points, now "Les Bleus" were clearly outclassed with a score of 34-10.
