Queenstown ('Tāhuna' in Maori) is a city with more than 10,000 inhabitants on the South Island of New Zealand. Queenstown is located on the northeast coast of Lake Wakatipu, with The Remarkables in the background.

Since the 1970s it has developed into an international center for adventure sports such as bungee jumping and zorbing. The town also has a small airport.

There is disagreement about the origin of Queenstown's name. The most popular myth holds that there was once a gold prospector in Queenstown who shouted that the town was suitable for a visit from Queen Victoria.
