The South African national rugby union team is a rugby team that represents South Africa in international competitions. The team is often referred to as the Springboks. The South African national rugby union team is one of the best rugby teams in the world. Due to a sports boycott, South Africa did not participate in the first two editions of the Rugby World Cup. In 1995, they were allowed to participate and even host it. South Africa managed to beat New Zealand 15-12 in the final. Winning this World Cup is seen as one of the greatest moments in South African sporting history. In 2007, the world title was won for the second time and in 2019 for the third time. Both times, England were defeated in the final. The Springboks defeated the New Zealand team 12-11 in the final of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, becoming the first team to win the title four times. The Springboks play against Argentina, Australia and New Zealand every year in the Rugby Championship.
